Does having an updated copyright notice matter? Some argue that it really isn’t a big deal, which I’d agree with, but you know, it is paying attention to all those ‘little details’ that help promote your site’s profressionalism. Ignoring the little things, can impact the overall impression, so if you use CSS and server side includes, it becomes an easy to manage task. Continue reading

The General settings, write settings, and link categories are discussed. Couple of little tricks, to make restoring lost data easier, should the unthinkable happen and you delete a category, or get a theme that doesn’t support multiple link categories. Blogging is supposed to be fun, simple, and fool proof, but we all know, that is a pipe dream. So some planning when you set it up, can save you down the road. Continue reading

Before you begin posting, you need to set up the settings. Strange, but yeah you do need to tweak the ‘out of the box’ settings, to make your site function properly. Should do this before you begin blogging, so you can test and refine some of the key settings, like how your URL will be displayed. Continue reading

A few additional tweaks to the config file, to make your blogging more fun, bit easier, and hassle free. Okay almost hassle free, as it does get harder from this point on, but hey, at least you managed the famous five minute install, have your virtual store all online, ready for you to make your first million. Oh, and please note, I didn’t say ‘first million WHAT’. But the techie stuff that is scary, is pretty well done now, and you can breathe a sigh of relief, as we move forward, to getting all the mechanics set up, so that your posts, actually make it live, and make sense, as well as let you be found. The latest ICQ update has me seeing red. I mean really, what with an increase in spam in the email, to telemarketers, you would think big outfits like ICQ would produce a product, that isn’t riddled with spyware, or attempts to make changes to key settings in your browser, without giving you a choice. Yet that is exactly what ICQ does, so beware, because it wasn’t IE that let it in, but the so called safe solution to IE, FIREFOX. Makes you wonder what else it lets into your computer, when you are browsing. Continue reading

We forget, at times, that our sites are stores. Fact is that we run a business, and need to always keep in mind, that our customers have to be able to find us, but also be able to shop inside. Cluttering up the front door to your site, with useless links to other sites, or loud garish warnings, isn’t going to get customers rushing inside. Oh, the odd few may click just to take a quick look, but they won’t snoop, they won’t shop. Your most important page, is really the front page, your index page. To ignore its commercial value, is like your favorite clothing store, having no sign, and having the windows all blacked out. Clutter makes your site look unprofessional, and worse, uninviting. Proper use of text, graphics, and location of links, is vital to success, but most of us don’t even think about that, let alone do anything about it. Continue reading

VOD & PPV are two well known terms, but there is a small difference between the two of them. VOD is the more lucrative, as it has the more options for the customer, which also means more chances of earning a commission. Continue reading

Sites need to have a map, that the customer can view, can access, and that you can utilize for a reference tool. XML sitemaps, are designed to notify search engines of updates, but they don’t help you find posts to link to, nor do they help your visitors find the things they need, in an easy format. Searches are not as good as seeing a good post listing, and besides, it might help entice them to explore your site further. Continue reading

Daylight Savings Time, which means more hassle and less sleep. I really hate losing an hour, not to mention the damn time needed to change the clocks, the blog settings in every damn blog, so as to not screw up the post schedules. This sucks, and frankly, I don’t think it saves us one bit of energy. Continue reading
