Intellectual Property

Well a victory for the online world, as a settlement was reached by a 19 year old, and the company that creates scripts for a virtual online community, called ‘Second Life‘. There is another suit pending as well, but frankly I am surprised at how few cases of online piracy actually happen.

While the case doesn’t create legal precedent, Taney said it does seem to transfer some real-world principles to the online universe. (source)

What it seems to be, is that this 19 year old sold some of the virtual sex toys or whatever, to other members in the game, for their use. Frankly that seems like cheating too, but hey, least they charged him, got a settlement. Thing is, what about all those tubes sites that give away all that free porn?

Some of them are charging memberships, so aren’t they profiting just as equally?

It is an interesting scenario, because I guess most feel that somehow they are ‘entitled‘ to free porn, free avatars, and whatever. That simply because it is displayed online, to advertise, they can not only keep it, but alter it, or show it all over. It is like they believe that somehow, it is theirs.

Wonder how these ‘tube uploaders‘ would feel if I came by their house and saw their car just sitting out there, in the driveway, took it and had my fun, then passed it on to someone else? I mean last time I checked, that was called Grand Theft Auto. Okay, silly, but hey, what if I saw their nice rake out there, took that, or maybe the nice new lights along the sidewalk to their house? Yeah, theft is what I would be charged with, so why aren’t the Tube Sites and Blogs that have Unlicensed Material charged as well?

Maybe a few more of these cases, and they might.   I hope.
