Mis Leading Advertising

I wonder, do those who come up with the ads for companies, do they even think about the ethics of it, or do they just figure out ways to scam people?

I am tinkering with Joomla, and at one of these places, to get free templates, they ask you to register, to email you the link for the free template. Fair enough, annoying, but I can see it. So I did, then suddenly I get not one, but two emails offering me a special deal on Joomla Hosting.

Liked the advertising, gives you a free domain name, plus only $6 a month hosting, with some nice features as well. So I thought, hell I could pay that, to do some playing, rather than my hard drive, and was considering a domain name, when I read the more or less fine print.

Yes, the monthly hosting is just under $6 a month, BUT ONLY IF you pay for TWO YEARS IN ADVANCE.

Now that ticks me off, as the rates are $10 for pay by the month, along with a nice little set up fee. Now, nowhere in the advertising mailers I got did it even mention PREPAY, let alone two years, nor did it mention any damn Set Up fees for paying by the month. Now I don’t mind paying in advance, do for one of my hosts actually, but that was MY CHOICE.

Basically I think this is just a hook, and it makes me distrust their other claims. If you won’t be up front to start with, I don’t know, kind of stretching it to believe everything else doesn’t have some hidden fee or other charges associated with it.

Simple lesson, READ IT ALL FIRST.  Or get a hold of Dean from here.
