Your Password is Lame

With all this talk about NATS and the ensuing drama it has caused, not to mention the paranoia, I decided to take a look at my Password Choices. Man was that a MISTAKE! I never really realized just how lame my choices have been, and the troubling thing is that it is for all of my passwords. WELL WAS.  I have spent hours visiting all sites, and altering my entire password collection.

THAT IS NOT EASY or FUN.

So just how good is your password choices? Do you use the wife’s name, your birthdate, or maybe the name of your child? If you do, well you might want to reconsider your choices, as I have.

I selected a password that only I would know, but with all the high tech crap out there, I did not feel safe. So I have changed THEM ALL, using random number, and random letters, not to mention the various lengths of characters.

Lloyd posted a link to Microsoft that gives you an idea of how strong your protection is. I was rather miffed actually, because I thought I had some nice strong ones. Boy was I wrong, again.  Hey, least they weren’t WEAK, but then in reading the tips, it struck me at how many sites we join don’t allow for the number of characters needed to make our password choices STRONG.

The other thing I did, was to buy myself a card index thingee, that has alphabetical index cards. On each card, I list my username and password plus the name of the site. This way I can easily flip to it, and grab it because there is no way I will ever remember a single password, as they are now set up.

Will you be changing your passwords? How will you keep them handy? I think storing them on my computer would be wrong, given the damn hacking going on, so a card index system seems to be the easiest and best. After all, if I can’t trust my wife, then who can I trust?
