Do You Unsubscribe or Ignore It?
Many webmaster’s have mailing lists. Some for members, some for those who were webmasters, and I wonder do you follow the unsubscribe option required?
Nuance and Wacom are two rather large companies, and I have unsubscribed so often it makes my head ache, yet I continue to get their UNSOLICITED SPAM. Yes I have bought their products, but you can bet your last dollar I WILL NEVER BUY THEM AGAIN. What is worse, is that even when I mark them as SPAM, they slip through the blasted filters, like somehow they got a FREE GET OUT OF JAIL CARD.
And it made me wonder about our own industry. If we don’t adhere to the ‘unsubscribe‘ option, just how many consumers are WE ARE PISSING OFF. I mean I hear lots of so called ‘webmasters‘ asking how to write a letter to someone who was once a member, to send them all a nice mass mailing with a discount or something to attract them back, and frankly I think it is a huge mistake.
People have canceled or let their membership lapse. Now for myself, I hate it when I get stupid reminders to sign up again, AT A SPECIAL RATE. It isn’t an incentive for me, but a RED FLAG, because it means to me that I was OVERPAYING before.
Something maybe to consider before you send out those unwanted emails offering a discount membership offer.
