I have spent the entire day trying to get a new theme working on a project I am doing. It is a theme that is just perfect for the job, with one tiny exception. NO WIDGET ABILITIES.

Despite checking with the author of the theme, who claims it is widget ready, it simply wouldn’t activate that way. That pisses me off, but I was determined. I mean this ‘theme‘ was perfect for the task at hand, but damned if I was going to manually add my advertising stuff, and other goodies a widget let’s me do.

In comes Wordpress. They have a small little help section on how to widget-ize a non widget ready theme. Now I am no geek and I tried it, and yep it FAILED. So I read on, and started looking for a page, called ‘function.php‘ that simply didn’t exist. So like an idiot i thought that was it…. Was I Wrong.

I created one, put the code they suggested and hey, I GOT ME WIDGETS! WOOHOO!

Now to see if I can figure out ‘Custom Fields’
