Learning Curves Rising
As you know, I installed wordpress 2.3 and have started to work out the odds ‘n ends that one does when first installing a blog. Well, okay stuff I do which is like play with plugins and all that.
This is a e-commerce website for mainstream stuff, and found a 2.3 plugin for a shopping cart. I also thought about the more traditional shopping carts, which I am also playing with on another ecommerce site.
Long and short, I love Wordpress. I mean the configuration takes a bit of getting used to, and the plugin is super, however there is a learning curve, and yet not as great as with Zen Cart which is the more traditional cart solution I am looking at.
Both have their pluses, but I have to say, the one consistent problem with both, is the lack of CLEAR DEFINED TUTORIALS. I mean seriously, there simply isn’t a hands on explanation of anything for either, that isn’t steeped in mumbo jumbo. Specially Zen Cart, which supposedly does offer a help book, for a fee. Okay I can live with that, I think… but then again, if its written by the same people that wrote the free help stuff, I ain’t about to waste my money.
Trial and Error seems to be the mantra in my work these days. I hate that. I like to flash it up, run with it and decide if its what I need. I hate all this geek speak, that infuriates me. I mean come on, they speak English, so why can’t they put the instructions in English?
