There is a lot to Search Engine Optimization. However, there are some simple things too, that work amazingly well. One of those little tricks, is updates.

The more you update a site, the more GBot will come crawling, Whether it is daily, weekly, the more you update, the happier Miss G gets. She likes fresh meat, so a site that has regular simple updates has a chance of gaining ground on those huge behemoth sites, because eventually they become large, in themselves.

This is one more reason too, in keeping your navigation simple and in having both an XML site map, and a regular site map. One, the XML map helps the spyders, and that is always good for us, traffic wise. The regular site map helps the surfer, which is also good for us, as it helps them find exactly what they are looking for, which should translate into sales.

As you add pages, don’t forget to update the sitemaps. After all, that too becomes an update. Just remember, you need to be regular about it, not half arsed. Don’t go promising updates every day, and deliver one a month. It is a trap I got into, and it does hurt, both with GBot and with customers. So be thoughtful, think carefully of what added work will be needed, then determine how you can accomplish it, in what time frame.

Then update.
