We all do it, and at times, that can really lead to some headaches, especially if you have to go back and correct a few posts, like fifty or sixty or a hundred.
Wordpress does it make it simple, sort of, to add automation to your blog. You can add feeds from various sponsors, to help populate your blog, but like anything, you need to plan ahead, plan for the additions. One thing to remember is that when you have the basics set up, you can simply add more stuff, for minimal time. It is the set up, that takes the time, but it saves you from headaches, or the 'damn I wish I had done that earlier' syndrom. It also can help make your site more profitable, and that is a good thing, don't you think?

The idea of feeds is to make your life easier. Forget to set it up properly, and well your life becomes a lot more complicated. You will spend some time to set it up right, but you WILL spend more time fixing it, if you do as I did, and just add the feeds first. Set up, does take time, but really, it saves a lot more time later on. I speak from experience on this one. FEEDS, once set up, can make it a sort of leave it and forget it experience, until you add another feed. Thing is, when set up right, adding new feeds, deleting old ones, becomes a lot less complicated. And that too, saves you time and grief.

RSS FEEDS can make your life easier, but you know, you really do need to think things through FIRST. I should have done that, rather than simply rush to add the feed code, the plugin, and let it all go. Things like assigning each feed its own unique keyword rich author name, not the one's they give their feeds. I mean really, why have your theme messed around with super long user names, that aren't exactly what we want either, showing on our pages.

When do you find time to actually add content? I mean when wordpress updates, and even not just then, plugins seem to be constantly fixing bugs, or updating. Not bad if you have one or two blogs, but what if you operate a dozen or so blogs? It can become a full time job to just keep your plugins up to date, never mind add content. Well seems there is a solution, that involves some added code to your config file, that lets you have multiple blogs, on multiple domains, but with one install of the core, and the plugins.

Keeping track of some details is important, to determine what you are really doing, versus what you think you are doing. It helps guide your focus, so you can concentrate on what matters, not what you think is happening. Like simple tracking of your actual time spent on a project, will help show, that all those hours may not be actually spent working, that in fact, you are doing more playing, than selling. Food for thought, but knowing the amount of time you spend, is one way to stay on target.

The trap we all fall into, is we get wrapped up in the thrill, the excitement of seeing our efforts come to fruition. We want our 'baby' to take its first step, before it is even all the way out of the womb. And that works against us, in the long run. Slow & steady does win the race, but damn, it is hard to not try to sprint to the finish line, even when you can't even see it ahead. Planning now, saves extra boring work, later on, but we never do it, though we mean to. Don't we?
