You know, we all use terms to denote something, to give it a feel or a reference, but the truth is, we also use words & terms to soften or hide what they really are.
I am talking about Cross Over Sales.
This is where on a join page, there are check boxes to sign up for a free trial at another site, and buried within the terms, is the notice that unless canceled in “X” days, the credit card gets dinged for a nice amount.
Problem is, it is legal, but damn dishonest and unethical, if you ask me.
Yet we give it a nice sounding name, when the truth is we should call it what it is. STEALING or FRAUD.
I also wonder at the processors who allow this crap, because it is on the Join Page. They make a big stink about sites using the words ‘boy’ and ‘girl’ and yet allow sites to rip off their customers, at will. It really is a disgrace, because that is one reason why the Adult Industry has a bad reputation.
It is also why it becomes easy for politicians to attack us, with stupid laws, stupid regulations, that make it hard, if not downright impossible to make an honest buck.
Something to consider when you decide on how you want to market your site. Will you succumb to the greed monster, or will you leave some quick cash on the table, and keep your integrity?
