Was reading a sponsor announcement on Gaydemon Webmaster Forum, and it sort of struck me as a bit off. I mean not that it was a bad announcement, but that somehow it came across that the Sponsor was doing a favor to his affiliates, by giving them credit for sales made, by his new “save a sale” practise.

Basically what it is, is that when a surfer is sent to the join page, and don’t join, but go off, they get a pop up or something, offering them an opportunity to get a discounted membership, rather than the one on the join page.

So, uh, why shouldn’t the affiliate get credit?  They did their job, by getting the surfer to the join page, where it then becomes the obligation of the Sponsor to close the deal, or am I missing something?

Am I perhaps feeling entitled, because the surfer I sent, didn’t join at the regular price, so therefore I shouldn’t be expecting commission for a sale made, at a lower price point? Or is it simply fair play, to give the affiliate credit, for sending the surfer. Perhaps if the price point had been lower to begin with, maybe the surfer would have joined without trying to leave?

Life seems so complicated, I wonder about all this. And now I wonder too, just how many sponsors actually record each and every sale, and apply credit where credit is due?
