I know, like who really has time to gossip on forums, or in chat rooms, but it seems, that is what we all wind up doing. I know I waste a great deal of time visiting just the two or three forums I frequent, and yet, they do have their purpose. Especially if you are just starting out in this business.
To begin with, I’ve never been a fan of the big forums, like GFY. To me, they are nothing but advertising banner farms, and mealy mouthed racists & hypocrites who like the sound of their own voices. Hence, my lack of participation in those kind of forums.
For me, it is limited to two main forums, one being geared towards the Gay Webmaster, the other towards mainly Straight Webmasters. Gaydemon, obviously is slanted towards the gay side, while Adult Forums 247 is the other.
So are they, or others, of any real benefit to a webmaster?
I believe so, or I wouldn’t spend the time I do, at them. They provide a good way of learning from those who know, without all the bullshit. GD (Gaydemon) has some pretty good stuff happening, like right now, they have a workshop on how to make a successful banner, on your own. No need for hiring a designer, especially if you can’t afford one.
Over at AF247 (Adult Forums 24/7) they have set up an adult article section, that gives you some nice link backs. However they also have some good tips and hints for making your work Search Engine friendly. Now that alone is worth a few bucks, but what I like, is these forums are FREE.
Either one will do, if you are looking for information on sponsors, on how to tweak your web pages, what type of plugins to use for wordpress, and much more. I know, I sound like a salesmen, but hey, it’s all free, so…
Point is, that for some, it can be a waste of time, until that one post, that you come across, that just opens your eyes. It is about learning, about networking. You can gain some valuable insights, but you can also gain some real friends.
